The trek splits in two parts. First half till the high point of Dzongri. Dzongri top offers amazing panorama of high peaks in Sikkim and Nepal. Few to mention are Kanchendzonga Range, Kabru North, South and Dome, Pandim, Rathong, Kokthang and Siniolchu. In the later half trail enters into the scenic wide open valleys and finally ends up in moraine ridge at Goecha La. The route has very thick vegetation, along with hundreds of bird species, butterflies and wildflowers, especially different varieties of Rhododendrons.

DZONGRI TREK:
our Details
Dzongri trek is for those who are pressed with time and less inclined to undertake the rigours of hard mountain trekking, trekking up to the meadows of Dzongri will offer the benefits of having experienced a truly spectacular Himalayan trek in a span of one week (or maybe even less). At an altitude of 4,200 m Dzongri is among the best trekking destinations not only in Sikkim but also in India. The sights of the milky white peaks all around Dzongri are bound to keep you gazing with awe. The view from this place has too much to be recommended a patchwork of green and gold streaked with blue – reminiscent of an abstract etching, framed by the majestic snow-capped peaks shining not very far away. The awesome presence of the great mountains thrusting their snowy peaks deciphers the strength of the Tethys Sea bulging its muscles to reach this towering height. No less than 14 of them soar majestically to 20,000 ft. plus. The centre of attraction of course remain the Kanchenjunga. Snowfall is common around Dzongri especially during the winter months.Dzongri is also middle point of two trekking trails, one going to Kanchenjunga base camp also knows as Chaurikhang and other trail leads to Goechala Trek.

There is a lot of bird life as well in this part of the route – wagtails, redstarts, minivets, whistling thrushes, blue magpies, tree pies etc. can be spotted along the way.Numerous wild flowers including potentellias, saxifrage, anemones and primulas spread in a colourful patchwork and sheep and yaks graze contentedly on the luxuriant vegetation. The mountains are at their tantalizing best – a sharp shower and the clouds lift for a few minutes to reveal the steep south face of Pandim. Sometimes, at dawn the sky is clear and the entire chain of peaks is visible , only to be blanketed out by thick rain clouds by mid morning.

Lama Lhatsun Chempo, on his journey to Sikkim, arrived at Norbugang in Yuksam, where he met two other lamas, Sempa Chempo and Rinzing Chempo and began converting the people into their faith. Sacred texts had revealed that the ruler designate of Sikkim would be a man named Phuntsog of Gangtok, so the lamas sent an envoy in search of him. The party returned with Phuntsog Namgyal, whose ancestry could be traced to the legendary prince Guru Tashi, founder of the Kingdom of Miyang in the Chumbi Valley.
